The WrestleMania times have been leaked. God how do I hate the WWE. You can't even keep the basics under wraps. If you want to see it. Look below.
* Chris Jericho vs. Fandango has been given 10 minutes
* Kane and Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston has been given 12 to 15 minutes
* Ryback vs. Mark Henry has been given 12 minutes
* The Shield vs. Randy Orton, Big Show and Sheamus has been given 15 minutes
* CM Punk vs. The Undertaker has been given 20 minutes
* Jack Swagger vs. Alberto Del Rio has been given 15 minutes
* Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar has been given 20 to 30 minutes
* The Rock vs. John Cena has been given 25 to 30 minutes
* A Diddy musical performance has been given 8 minutes
* The WWE Hall of Famers coming out to wave to fans has been given 7 minutes
* The show opener and National Anthem has been given 7 minutes
* Other assorted segments throughout the show have been given 10 minutes
The longest three matches all involve part time talent. One match is all part time talent (and the second longest match on the card). Why build talent when we can just remind people of guys that used to be here, but now are just using Mania for a good pay day.
Also P-Diddy is getting about the same time as Chris Jericho. That makes sense. Mother fucker.
Anyone catch The Ultimate Fighter this week? Uriah Hall has a better build as character than most new WWE characters (Shield excluded, but that might be more the talents doing than the writers).
Still not sold on buying this show. Might be my first missed Mania in a decade.

It's not me, it's you.
Normally I don't post when life just gets hectic. I am now working from home and taking care of a 3 month old. That would be enough of an excuse as to why nothing new has appeared here. If that was the truth.
The truth is I haven't watched wrestling in three weeks. I know, we're almost upon WrestleMania! The thing is, I don't really miss wrestling. The WWE hasn't put out a solid product in years. Every once and awhile they do something right but lately that ratio has been way out of wack.
If the WWE doesn't give a shit about me, and would rather cater to a demographic somewhere between MTV's Buckwild and that stupid humor of that fat British chick from the Chelsea Lately show (who isn't funny, but I believe mentally handicapped), then I say I don't give a shit about them.
I don't know if I'll order WrestleMania. I just don't see the sense in plopping down 60 dollars to see out comes I already know and a WWE champion that misses three straight weeks to promote his movie. Here is what 11 PM this Sunday will look like: Undertaker streak continues, John Cena is the WWE champion, and the semi-retired CEO will beat the legit former UFC champion.
There might be a surprise or two thrown in, but the big stuff. The stuff that shapes the WWE going forward. That stuff will be the same old same old. The WWE learned a long time ago, it easier to change nothing and accept the fans who won't leave than to try hard and chase the fans that have left.
I think I might be part of the latter now. When the clock strikes 6 on Sunday, I'll make up my mind. If that was today, I wouldn't be watching WrestleMania. I'll spend my money on Sonnen vs. Jones. It has a better storyline.

Monday Night RAW: Blame The Crowd
I’ve been doing entertainment in one form or another for almost fifteen years now. I started in Radio in 1998 and had been in and out until 2010. From 1999 until late 2006, I made my money in a professional wrestling ring. In 2007, after my second hip surgery before I turned 26, I started doing standup comedy and continue to travel the roads telling my stories today. I’ve spent a majority of my adult life in front of crowds.
Normally only shitty entertainers blame the crowd for a bad show. They usually can’t bring themselves to admit they stunk the joint up. As comic legend Jim Wiggins once told me in a bowling alley in bumfuck, Indiana, “There aren’t bad crowds, just horrible comics”. I believe this applies to all genres of entertainment. Then there was Buffalo, NY last night. They proved there is always an exception to the rule.
I can’t fault the WWE for last night’s RAW. It was a really good showing and it was booked as a very strong show with multiple angles getting over and plans for Mania getting a little clearer. It just sucked that they basically had an empty arena feel with a full crowd. It was like the fans showed up expecting Disney on Ice and a wrestling show broke out.
Since the return of the Rock this has been more apparent with crowds. Dallas was a shit crowd last week. There have been a few more, but they escape me. It can’t be just the return of the Rock. Maybe it is a run of bad luck, but it makes no sense as the WWE has had some strong episodes of RAW recently. It has to be a mix of Cena fans, who only show up to cheer their hero, and Rock fans, who only show up to see the movie star. I don’t know.
Maybe it was the green screen promo that told all the marks they’re dumb for believing this is real, and this is what we get for exposing Oz. What I wouldn’t give for an old school crowd during an old school RAW. Instead all I got was Buffalo. If it wasn’t for your wings, I’d sell you to Canada for Windsor.
You can’t dwell on the bad stuff forever; especially when this was a pretty big episode of RAW. There wasn’t an epic match like Cena vs. Punk from last week, but those are a true rarity for any show. This week had tons of movement towards WrestleMania mixed in with some great nostalgia.
I dig the cold opening with Undertaker. He’s back. No promo, just the best entrance in wrestling history. That was enough to let everyone know business was picking up. Then the set up for the main event was pretty basic. No over complicating things as beating the Undertaker is now on par with being the main event at Mania. Let’s face it, many people will win WWE titles at future WrestleManias, but only one person will break the streak, if that ever happens. It’s the modern equivalent to slamming Andre.
Poor Cesaro gets the jobber entrance. Ryback is being heavily protected with good workers two weeks in a row. Last week his tosses Ziggler around, this week it’s the United States champ. A nice match, but there was nothing special here. I like Ryback in the opening hour as he has the energy, but is still learning how to be a bankable talent. I also like that they are positioning him for a match (and feud) with Mark Henry.
The World’s Strongest Man is one of the enjoyable parts of the WWE. He has become the best monster in the business. I truly believe he could wreck anyone in his path. He didn’t have a match as much as a persona cementing moment. It was good for what it was intended to do. When Ryback and Henry finally do collide, it should be a really fun match. I’m thinking opening hour of WrestleMania. Unless the Rock wants to use that time to cut a really long promo with no real point or purpose.
I could really care less about Zack Ryder. Just cause you want to be something, doesn’t mean you deserve to be it. I wanted to be a pro athlete growing up, but I didn’t have the talent. The same goes for Ryder and wrestling. He’ll make some good coin on the indy circuit in the future.
Flair is Miz’s mentor. Miz can’t do a figure four unless it is in slow motion. Dolph Ziggler is being jobbed like his name is Steve Lombardi. We have officially entered the twilight zone. It is always good to see the nature boy, and he’s great as a manager. Too bad he was in the wrong corner. I really hope he turns on Miz in the future. I bet he’d do it for a make out session with AJ. She’s his kind of crazy, and crazy chicks dig space mountain. The match was good, but again Miz is off his game. Luckily Ziggs picked up the slack. Hell, I swear I saw Dolph put the figure four on himself as Miz just stood there.
The Rock comes out and tells a drawn out story. His promos are like Mad Libs. Same stuff with a few new one liners sprinkled in. John Cena comes out and now the crowd is happy. The two they came to see are in the ring. Too bad there will still be 2 hours of show left. Don’t want wrestling to get in the way of Cena-Rock fest.
I didn’t like this segment one bit. It has this weird vibe to it. I can’t exactly put my finger on it. I felt like I was watching two guys court each other not for a fight, but for a Craig’s list hook up. The Rock tried to be serious and so did John Cena, and it came off as both being less that genuine. Maybe this should have stayed a once in a lifetime match. I have a feeling this sequel will be on par with Caddyshack 2.
The legends all got crammed into three segments. Why did Dusty and Slaughter come out with Hacksaw Jim Duggan to face Jack Swagger? A simple backstage segment between Hacksaw and Zeb could have helped get that over with the fans. Zeb could say Duggan isn’t a real American, and the two other legends could come to back Hacksaw up. It would have made the attack by Swagger make sense.
The same goes for Million Dollar Man. He and the Prime Time Player did something on the WWE app. Yet DiBiase doesn’t get more than a quick mention during what amounts to a glorified WWE Superstars match. I did like the hundred dollar bill bit, and Bryan sneaking back to take it was funny. The PTP are done. I have a feeling Titus is going to drop Young and begin a singles push. Young will begin his push for Zack Ryder’s spot.
Finally the Honky Tonk Man is maybe part of a six man tag with the dancing duo of Tensai and Clay. They crush 3MB. Honky gives the guitar shot to Slater. I actually liked the booking. Would have liked to see Honky with the New Age Outlaws in this same match, but it looks like Road Dawg and Mr. Ass have bigger plans. When Clay was playing the guitar he looked like a bloated New Jack.
I like Faaaaaan-Daaaaaaan- GO. Any other crowd and that segment was gold. I was surprised to see Kofi in the ring, but it makes sense with Fandango refusing to wrestle until the announcer gets his name right. This does two thing very well. First it is good heel heat to refuse to wrestle, and the second is it establishes his name with the audience. Like him or hate him, you know who he is. Now he can keep talking about how great he is, and people will get pissy cause he never gets in the ring to back it up. I hope this continues until after WrestleMania. I’d even do it on the internet pre-show before the PPV.
Triple H cut one hell of promo. He made this a very personal issue. Sure it was long winded, but by HHH standards it was short. This is the second week in a row that this feud has hit the bullseye. The description of Vince, his family, and Triple H’s inner feeling added a ton to essence of this match. I expect a brutal encounter during Mania.
Best Shield promo yet. Holy crap was that good. Seth Rollins is coming into his own, but again Ambrose steals the show. I don’t know how long they can stay together but the WWE has something special here. This could be the modern age version of the Horsemen. They’re that good.
Del Rio and Barrett had a good match. It was more to get Wade on television to promote his movie, and to get Del Rio a win as he builds towards Swagger. Zeb and Jack come out to watch. They aren’t touching Del Rio. It’s a small thing, but it will pay off in the long run. It helps Zeb sell his point as only Del Rio has been the one getting physical. This segment could have been an hour earlier and let the WWE break up the legends block in the 9 PM hour.
Uncle Zeb and Jack Swagger were all over the TV again. The WWE is really pushing them as top tier heels. The best part is Zeb. He is amazing on the mic, and he makes you hate him for every word he says because he almost sounds like he’s right because he is so vague. Yes people are not respecting our laws for immigration, but it is only because they are coming here for the same reason our fore fathers did, to find a better life for their family. I will be interested to see where this goes after Mania and Del Rio.
I love the New Age Outlaws. If this was a one shot deal then I would have put them with Honky Tonk man for the six man angle. It looks like the NAO could be back on a semi-full time basis. They still can bring it in the ring. Road Dawg is top five on the mic in the current WWE. Billy Gunn looks to be in better shape now than he did in the 90’s. They could sell a lot of merch, and a tag title run could do the WWE a lot of good. That was a really good match with the Colons to get them back in the groove as the next step looks to be a feud with the Rhodes Scholars.
I wouldn’t be opposed to a big tag team three way at Mania between Team Hell No, Rhodes Scholars, and The New Age Outlaws for the straps. That way Rhodes Scholars could win the titles without pinning the NAO, and then the next few months can be the Outlaws chasing the Scholars for the titles. If done right when NAO wins, it’ll blow the roof off the joint. Also it would elevate the tag division, which has been resurrected over the past few months from being a step above the Divas title.
Mae Young is cool. She’s old and she doesn’t give a shit. She deserves everyone’s respect. She’s like that old war vet at the bar that nobody messes with. I have no doubt that Mae will try to wrestle when she is 100.
The fatal four way was cool. I think everyone kind of knew that Punk was winning, but how kept everyone watching. Again the Buffalo crowd crapped all over this. It was smart booking by the WWE as Punk has had a few bad losses lately, and if he is going to lose to Undertaker, then a win over Big Show, Orton, and Sheamus keeps him strong. I would expect a few more wins over big name talent for Punk in the future. He needs to look unbeatable going into Mania.
Overall a strong episode of RAW that set up HHH vs. Brock and Undertaker vs. Punk for WrestleMania. They trudged along with Cena and Rock. Uncle Zeb and Swagger continued their build towards Del Rio. Finally we even got a tease that Ryback and Mark Henry would collide soon. That is a lot accomplished for a show that was built around the older era of the WWF. If the WWE could do this much during a regular show, then the build to Mania would be in good shape.
We’re 33 days away, and I can’t wait. WrestleMania might be the most loaded card in years. The Hall of Fame is stacked. There are three to four matches that could close the show. Too bad Buffalo didn’t think so. I hope they enjoy their future of house shows. They’re the #52 media market in the country. Not a must hit for the WWE. Just run DC four times a year, and you’ll never have to go back. Buffalo can only blame themselves for this. They suck.

Monday Night RAW: Powerbombs and Piledrivers and Hurricanranas, Oh My!
Buckle up Dorthy, this isn’t Kansas anymore, it’s the road to WrestleMania! Lately when I have been really excited for an episode of Monday Night RAW I am usually cursing my television by 9:30. I could do the same with this episode because it had its head scratching moments. For one, this is the second Monday Night RAW in February where the WWE champion didn’t even bother to show up. And no, recap clips don’t count. Come on Dwayne, you’re better than this.
Why the WWE dusted off that old video of John Cena and JBL from when WWE went Hollywood I don’t know. I get that the Oscars were last night, but is your go to footage a few weeks before WrestleMania a video from 8 years ago. A silver lining is it did make me realize that John Cena has won 10 WWE titles in less than 8 years. CM Punk held his last reign for over a full year (Cena did have a year run, but who really talks about it. That’s sad). This means tonight’s main event is truly a battle of quality vs. quantity.
CM Punk’s two WWE title reigns are both more memorable than all 10 of John Cena’s reigns put together. The first being the infamous Vegas promo and the Chicago title win that ignited a national fever dubbed “The Summer of Punk”. The second was a win with less fanfare but resulted in the longest title run since Hulk Hogan in the 80’s when the WWF was running wild. Both are signature achievements in the WWE history books while John’s runs as champ are mere footnotes. He did get to make 12 rounds, so that’s special.
I could bitch about a lot but if the WWE gives me two segments like the opening and the main event, then I’ll happily shut my trap. That was probably the hottest start to Monday Night RAW in 2013. I can hate on Vince McMahon but the man is a top tier worker. Paul Heyman is no slouch either. The two are always must watch TV.
Brock and HHH stole the show with an amazing brawl and Lesnar took one hell of a hard way gash. With the WWE cutting back on blood during matches, it really stands out as something special when it happens; even if it is by accident. I think Lesnar looks scarier when his face is covered in his own blood. That dude is fierce as in if we both ended up in a jail cell together then I would just accept the fact that I’m his wife.
That opening had the place going nuts and would be hard to follow. That is why the WWE has guys like Dolph Ziggler to handle such sticky situation. Poor Dolph can’t even get a TV entrance, which is an insult cause the guy made Ryback look like a million dollars. You can tell that the months working with Punk have helped develop Ryback. He and Ziggler had a good match to get things started on RAW. I know some don’t enjoy the circus around Dolph but I think AJ and Big E add a lot to his persona. I say add more people to the mix. What is David Otunga doing?
The CM Punk promo wasn’t his best. It actually felt out of place on the show. It did serve two purposes. One is that it hyped the main event for later. That is always good, and something the WWE tends to skip over. The second is that it began his build towards believing himself a “god”. He is calling himself immortal and legendary. Who else could say that? I bet it is the same guy who is undefeated at WrestleMania. My fingers are crossed.
They inducted Donald Trump into the Hall of Fame. I think it is kind of fitting that he goes in around the same time that the WWE is doing a crazy right wing nut character. Will Trump ask Del Rio for his birth certificate? I don’t have an issue with him being the celebrity inductee. It’s in New York and Trump is a symbol of New York like rats, urine filled subways, and the Jets.
Mark Henry beats up Khali. I approve of this. It was short. It was sweet. It helped push Henry as the biggest baddest dude in the WWE. It’s simple and I like simple. Plus it keeps Khali from trying to wrestle, which benefits us all.
It looks like Jack Swagger won’t be suspended. The WWE Wellness Policy is a joke. Again I will state that this runs parallel with the McMahon life motto of, “Money over morality”. Remember kids don’t do drugs, unless you’re making us rich. In that case, roll a fatty and go make some Youtube videos with the dwarf from Lord of the Rings.
I liked the Miz TV segment. If the Dallas crowd wasn’t a total waste then that would have gotten a bigger reaction. Uncle Zeb is a great character. Jack Swagger is truly taking a back seat to him. It works because Swagger is a better second fiddle than a leader. Alberto Del Rio came off strong and held his own against Wilford Brimley (diabetes). This will pay off down the line because one of the arenas is going to have a lively crowd that will give these men the reaction they deserve. Given New York’s strong relationship with this country’s immigrant population, I would say that WrestleMania should be an interesting crowd.
They sure as hell put the duo of Zeb and Swagger on TV a lot tonight. They got a long segment, a tease on the all-important WWE app, a match with Miz, and some video promo time. I don’t mind it because this whole thing is going to take a few cracks with the bat to get established. I will say that every time I see the videos from Zeb’s basement all I can think to myself is, “Johnny Lawrence grew up and left the Cobra Kai dojo to join a militia led by Gwildor from He-Man”.
It’s Old School RAW next week. The WWE then gave us a match straight out of the 80’s with Cesaro vs. Orton. Or should I say Nikita Koloff vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Another fun match as both men work really well with each other. Cesaro does what mid-card champs do and jobs to Orton. No shame it that, just wish it didn’t happen so often.
Sheamus likes movies. He makes fun of Wade Barrett. Wade gets cocky. It is a simple build to what should be a good feud. Still confused because I thought Sheamus also was feuding with the Shield. I guess he can take on four men at once. He probably will and win. It’s not a far stretch when the tag champs beat the former #1 contenders blind folded with an arm tied behind their backs.
The Prime Time Players are finished. I don’t care if they tag together until 2020, they are finished. You can’t take a team serious that just lost to a blind folded one armed team. That is literally losing an ass kicking contest to a one legged man. Darren Young should start filling out applications at Home Depot, his future is bleak.
R-Truth and Rhodes was a backdrop to Sandow setting up a future singles match. They are getting closer to a Rhodes Scholars reunion. The announcers try to insinuate that Rhodes and Sandow are more than friends. Billy and Chuck are jealous. It should be a good low-card tag feud for both teams. Not much more I can say about this.
Dean Ambrose is clearly the breakout star of the Shield. Seth Rollins is getting better every week, and this was clearly his best promo, but Ambrose has it all. In baseball they would call him a five tool prospect. It would seem the WWE is setting up another WWE All Stars vs. The Shield match for WrestleMania. I think Orton is on that team. I would even say Chris Jericho too. Maybe Ryback is the third. All in all I am enjoying their run so far, but it could get stale unless The Shield moves beyond flavor-of-the-month six man tags.
The Miz wrestled Jack Swagger. They had a good match. Both men can bring it in the ring. Swagger and Colter are starting to gain momentum with the fans. The WWE again tries to bait the right wing media by name dropping Ann Coulter. This match established how deadly the Patriot Lock is as a finisher. The next few weeks should be interesting. I don’t see Swagger losing much going into Mania. He needs to look almost unbeatable.
John Cena did a promo. He now cuts a promo the way a 5 year old tries to tell a story. It is usually all over the place with tons of misplaced energy. His parents shouldn’t let him have sugar so late on a school night. At least he mentioned his match coming up unlike some current WWE champions had forgotten to do two weeks ago. (7 minutes without mentioning the Elimination Chamber, come on Dwayne!)
If John Cena and CM Punk want to put on matches like that then screw the Rock. He can stay home for WrestleMania. That was probably the best match Monday Night RAW has seen since Jeff Hardy vs. The Undertaker in a ladder match. I would pay to see them wrestle one more time. It is that damn good. The last ten minutes of the match was as close to perfect as I’ve seen.
I liked that they showed Cena pulling out new tricks to beat Punk. At first Punk would counter his usual move set like the double shoulder tackle. He even countered the STFU. That is when the first banned move came into play. Always fun to watch the announcers squirm when somebody uses a crippler crossface. Chris Benoit would have been proud. John Cena also debuts his Powerbomb, and I hope he keeps it in his arsenal. It looked really good.
Then CM Punk pulls his own banned move and does the Piledriver 80’s style. Word is Vince McMahon blew his top when that happened because the move has been outlawed for years. Goes to show how much Punk and Cena not only trust each other, but understand their value in the company. It’s not like they’re going to get suspended. The crowd lost it for such a basic maneuver. It is dangerous, and can cripple, but this match was the kind of match where you push the line a bit. Kudos to both men for going beyond the limit.
Again the end was classic. It’ll be hard for any Mania match to top that last ten minutes. They told an epic story that neither man’s best was going to be enough to beat the other. They went at it like Apollo and Balboa by trading haymaker type move after haymaker type move. They should issue this match at wrestling schools as a requirement for graduation.
You can criticize Cena’s hurricanrana all you want. It was sloppy, but when a man his size does that move, it is impressive just to see it. Also he should thank Punk for protecting him during the move as he kept Cena from getting lawn darted in the middle of the ring. With that performance, John Cena deserves to be going to WrestleMania; I hope the Rock remembers to show up too.
There were some holes in this week’s episode but the good by far outweighed the bad. I’ll take that every single week with a smile on my face. I’m geeked to watch Main Event and Smackdown this week. I can’t wait for next Monday.
I want to know where CM Punk is going from here. I want more of Brock vs. HHH. I want to see how Uncle Zeb and Jack Swagger continue to grow. I want to find out what the Shield will do next, and if Orton will pay for his RKO. I also want the WWE champion to appear. That is a lot of wants.
Until next week, you can't always get what you want but if you try sometimes, well you might find you get what you need. This week I wanted the Rock, the Undertaker, and Jack Swagger suspended. I must have needed CM Punk vs. John Cena. Needs are always better than wants.
Plus I got to make three different Uncle Zeb look-a-like jokes. Dude must make a killing at the carnival running the mustache rides. And I’m out…

Quazi’s Crystal Ball: The Elimination Chamber
(None of These Men Are In A Chamber Match)
We’re on the road to WrestleMania. Right now it is time for that pee break at the shady rest area with holes in the stalls known as, “The Elimination Chamber”. Normally this pay per view isn’t anything special, and just aligns the last few pieces headed into WrestleMania. This year is a bit different. The Rock is champion. The pay per view now only has one chamber match. Also John Cena has found his own Macho Man & Miss Elizabeth, and formed a Mega Powers for this generation. I’ll let you guess who Liz is and who is Savage.
Since this pay per view is sandwiched between the two biggest events on the WWE calendar, it traditionally gets lost in the shuffle. The WWE rolls out two chamber matches for the titles, the rumble winner waits to see who emerges, and the WWE sells tickets based on plunder. This edition of the Elimination Chamber PPV has a different feel to it. It feels like a real event and not a pit stop on our way to bigger and better things.
A lot of this is due to The Rock. He and CM Punk will once again headline a pay per view and make the namesake of the event part of the undercard. The Chamber match has a variety of intriguing storylines. A case can (and will) be made for all six men to challenge for the World title. The World title should be wrapping up a decent feud. Alberto Del Rio is now a full-fledged face and that means this feud has run its course. Finally, The Shield goes toe-to-toe with the WWE all-star team of John Cena, Sheamus, and Ryback (A.k.a. The Just-Us League). I don’t know who is winning, but I know which Jort wearing superhero isn’t taking the pin.
Now I’m going to crank my Vanilla Ice station on Pandora and get this preview and prediction going … A1A BEACHFRONT AVENUE!
Brodus Clay & Tensai vs. Team Rhodes Scholars – Internet Pre-Show Match
The Rhodes Scholars broke up a few weeks ago to try their hand at singles action. I don’t think they have won a match since. I don’t even think they have lasted longer than 5 minutes. Now they’re back as a tag team. I did see a funny picture over the weekend of Rhodes and Sandow at a press conference with the New Age Outlaws where they had a “Rhodes Scholars Reunion Tour” T-shirt. If that is the direction they are going with this then I am a big fan of that. I like them better as a team than as singles. They are good times on the mic and in the ring.
Tensai and Clay are the bastard child of one of the worst segments in WWE history. Tensai danced and Clay acted like a bad Saturday morning cartoon. Now they are a tag team. They are even asking the twitterverse for a new team name. I’m guessing it will be unveiled during this match. My vote goes to, “Monsters of Funk”.
This will probably be the easiest match to call during the event. There is no chance that the Rhodes Scholars derail the Funk Train before it gets out of the station. It should be a nice 8 minute match. Maybe even get the Rhodes Scholars back in the tag division. If that happens then we all win.
Winner: Clay & Tensai (and wrestling writers when the two dancing ladies touch butts)
Kaitlyn vs. Tamina Snuka – WWE Divas Title
Kaitlyn makes her first pay per view title defense. Tamina Snuka can wrestle. I’ll be in the bathroom. I am guessing this match goes on between the Chamber match and the Rock vs. Punk main event. Nothing to really preview here. If the WWE isn’t going to invest time into developing this division, then I’m not investing mine in talking about.
Winner: Kaitlyn (and my beer soaked bladder)
Antonio Cesaro vs. The Miz – WWE United States Championship
I am a big fan of Cesaro. He is so talented in the ring, and I enjoy his promos. Some knock his ability with the mic, but I laugh every time he talks. His character and persona is a fresh twist on a classic heel. He also happens to be one of the strongest wrestlers the WWE has ever had. This past Monday when he tossed The Miz around like a small child was a very cool sight to see.
Miz has been a pin ball for the WWE. He is announcing for their Main Event show. He is kind of feuding with Dolph Ziggler as Ric Flair’s protégé. He also is dropping CM Punk on his neck. This feud has been a good undercard battle, but like Del Rio & Big Show, these two need fresh fights. It has run its course and I believe Miz needs something to help develop this “New Nature Boy” gimmick.
This should be another solid bout. Cesaro can help protect Miz in the ring. Miz isn’t a slouch himself. I think this is a perfect opener for the pay per view. It should also help catapult Cesaro into a higher standing with the WWE audience. His next feud needs to be with an upper mid-card talent. I just don’t see Miz as the US champ. It seems like the title does more for Antonio. If Miz wins that would be the shocker of the night.
Winner: Antonio Cesaro (and America... ‘Merica!)
Alberto Del Rio vs. The Big Show – WWE World Championship
This is the feud that will never end. I haven’t been a fan of this for the past few weeks. It just never seems to get legs as the storyline progresses. I like both men. I think Big Show is a good cocky heel. He should because he’s the biggest meanest man alive. I also like Alberto Del Rio as a baby face. The transition is complete. The two of them together just haven’t clicked for me.
I’m assuming this feud wraps up and both men go their separate ways. Gee that is being said a lot for this pay per view. It should be a good match but they started this feud with a plunder match and are wrapping it with a traditional singles match. That is some backwards booking, but it helped achieve the new fan friendly Del Rio. I again can’t see Big Show walking out with the strap. Too many great contenders in the Chamber match for Del Rio.
Winner: Alberto Del Rio (and the male scarf industry)
The Shield vs. The Just-Us League
Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns have been the best thing the WWE has done in a long, long time. They are the Nexus with better writing. They are three talented performers with each having a unique persona that sets them apart. Ambrose is the crazy mastermind with a silver tongue. Rollins comes off as the daredevil willing to do whatever to achieve his goal. Reigns is a certified nasty beast with some great charisma. The WWE has protected them with a limited amount of wrestling including never giving away matches for free on TV.
John Cena has to wait until Mania to get his title match. That means he has time to fight The Shield. He has two new buddies in Sheamus and Ryback. They are all muscle heads who can’t stand that three punks like the Shield think they can be main eventers. They don’t even have biceps on top of biceps or veins shooting out of their necks, what kind of main eventers could they be?!? It would seem that Cena and company are the symbolic glass ceiling coming for the new guys. They are the Just-Us League.
Traditionally this is where Cena crushes the Shield and uses their momentum to propel himself into WrestleMania. The Shield has been so protected that I think the WWE doesn’t want to do anything to stop their rise. I don’t see Cena taking the pin as he needs to be untarnished when facing the WWE champion in New York. I also don’t see Ryback getting beat as he continues to build a strong following. That means it looks like the ginger warrior is going to get a 3 second tan.
Winner: The Shield (and Smarks around the globe)
Chris Jericho vs. Kane vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry vs. Jack Swagger
Elimination Chamber Match: Winner gets a World title shot at WrestleMania
This is a true crap shoot of a match up. I have no real clue who is going to walk out and face Del Rio for the title at WrestleMania. All six men have great cases for being the one to get the chance.
Bryan and Kane are still tag champs. They are headed toward a split. I don’t think either is getting a title shot because there is still more to be done with the duo. They have both been great assets for the company, but neither needs the title picture right now. I see them squaring off at Mania, possibly in a singles match for the tag titles.
Chris Jericho would be my dark horse but he seems to have unfinished business with Dolph Ziggler. Unless Ziggs cashes in the money in the bank on Del Rio, then Jericho isn’t winning. Now if Dolph does win the title from Del Rio that changes things. Jericho would be the top choice to win this thing. Right now I think the WWE is going to ride out Del Rio for a bit longer.
Jack Swagger is coming back with a vengeance. His new persona with manager Uncle Zeb is tailor made for a feud with Del Rio. He is the right wing crazy nut job that thinks immigrants are ruining this country. He’s a real American patriot. He’s Ted Nugent with a bowl cut. He needs to build this character. His shot at Del Rio is probably happening post-Mania.
Reefer Randy and Mark Henry are the true two when it comes to this match. I am fifty-fifty on both. Orton has a long history with Del Rio, and that could help sell this match up as now Del Rio is the baby face & Orton is heading toward heel status. The WWE could use this few weeks to make the turn and give Del Rio a very creditable win at WrestleMania.
Mark Henry is a beast and has come back stronger than ever. He is tearing the WWE midcard a new ass. He, like Swagger, might be too fresh to challenge for the title. His character is so established though it might not matter. I just don’t think losing at WrestleMania is going to be good for the long run. A Henry vs. Del Rio match at Summer Slam might be better.
Winner: Randy Orton (and his pot dealer… puff puff RKO!!!)
The Rock vs. CM Punk – WWE Championship – Rock Loses Title on DQ or Count Out
The Rock won the title and the WWE championship hasn’t been seen on a house show since. It also didn’t appear on an episode of RAW two week ago. Hell the champ forgot for 7 minutes during his promo this week to even mention the pay per view this Sunday. He did have a Super Bowl commercial, and three major motion pictures coming out, so that balances things out.
There is no doubt the WWE is better with The Rock in the fold. He brings casual fans back to the product. He sells tickets. He just doesn’t need the WWE title to do so. The guy sells tickets if you promote that he will be doing a cooking demo in the ring. Pancakes with The Rock would be the highest rated segment on RAW. It just stings to purists like myself that the WWE’s top title has been M.I.A. from the product for nearly three weeks. It shows that the WWE really cares more about the “E” than the “W”.
CM Punk on the other hand has been lights out since losing the title. He has carried this feud on his own. His promos are top notch. He has been tearing the house down in the ring with any talent on the roster. The Alfred to his Batman, Paul Heyman, has been on a solid run too. Add it all together and it turns this rematch into one of the biggest matches of the year. No thanks to the WWE champ.
Again the two will have a great match. I would think better than their Royal Rumble show down since Rock has gotten some ring rust off and they both have a feeling for one another now. The stipulation came out of nowhere, so that has to play a role. Also Brock Lesnar is always lurking in the wings. I think shenanigans will unfold. I just don’t see the WWE dropping the idea of Cena vs. Rock 2.
I could see Punk winning by DQ or Count Out, and the stipulation being disputed the next night on RAW. Something like Vince’s voice on the phone was doctored by Paul Heyman and HHH comes out to throw out the decision. That leads to Brock and HHH getting in each other’s faces. This would be the kick off to their WrestleMania match. That would mean the “winner” on the pay per view would be …
Winner: By Shenanigans, the NEW WWE Champion CM Punk (and house show audiences)
The only match that hasn’t made the card is an intercontinental title match for Wade Barrett. I assume his next title defense is against Bo Dallas. They might save that for the next night on RAW. It wouldn’t surprise me if they had some kind of angle during the PPV like a backstage attack during a promo.
From top to bottom this looks to be one of the best pay per view offering the WWE has had this year. The Rock being on the card makes anything look better, but there is 3 quality main event matches here. It bodes very well for the strength of this year’s WrestleMania. As a wrestling fan, I’m getting spoiled in 2013. Aside from that 9 PM hour a couple weeks ago on RAW, that still hurts.
I recommend shelling out the cash for this show. It should have a couple twists during the broadcast. Don’t do it in HD. It isn’t worth the extra 15 bucks. Use that money to get beer. It makes the Divas match more entertaining, or at least makes sure you have a reason to use the bathroom when they come out. Drunk or pissing, either way you’re a winner!

Monday Night RAW: Just Like Pizza, It’s Even Better A Day Later
Normally when this review gets posted a day late it is because I couldn’t stand the latest edition of Monday Night RAW, and needed a cooling off period before writing the words, “Fuck This”, for four pages. This week couldn’t be farther from the truth. Those who read this regularly know that my wife and I recently had our first child. Monday night I got to experience my first nuclear meltdown where nothing seems to calm him. That means I didn’t see RAW until Tuesday.
The little guy is doing great and it seems he had a nasty case of gas. I think my wife had some spicy food and he didn’t handle it well. I know we’ve all had a few bad taco nights. This was his first. Knowing he is my kid, it won’t be his last.
Ghost Chilis? Fuck yeah, let’s do this… oh god.
I REALLY enjoyed this week of RAW. Funny part is, No Rock. Yup, No WWE champion. That right there puts a black mark on the product. No taped interview, just old recaps from last week. This is why he shouldn’t be champ. CM Punk should have retained and they could have Dwayne chase the belt until Mania. Then the next night after the biggest show of the year he retires champ. That means there wouldn’t be an episode of RAW without the WWE champion. Can’t say that now and it has only been 2 weeks of the Rock’s reign. Big time fail, but the WWE did get to plug that their champ had a Super bowl commercial and is in a ton of blockbuster movies. None of which are from WWE films. SMH.
The opening with CM Punk was top notch. I have found when the WWE starts out strong it really helps the overall product. Punk does so much so well, but his mic skills as of late have been out of this world. He stood toe to toe with the best promo man from the attitude era, and now he is must see every time he is talking. The Justin Roberts bit was great. I also like that he is continuing his streak. Maybe he’ll come out with his own belt next week. That’d be cool.
Booker T does what Booker T does. They push the WWE app. It is the digital age and I can’t fault them for it. If Nielson starts to use social media and new media as a factor in ratings then the WWE has really laid a lot of good ground work that will surely pay off. The minute Nielson makes it official, go buy WWE stock. Those first ratings will be stellar.
Cesaro and Ryback have some good chemistry. I was surprised that Antonio got as much offense as he did. He is the US champ, but Ryback has been chewing up workers lately. This match to open things up in the ring was well paced, and told a good story. I wouldn’t mind seeing these two in a lengthy feud. Ryback is really over with the southern crowds. He’s an old school meathead baby face, and the south digs those kinda wrasslers.
They had a lot of recap and video segments after this match. I know the WWE is trying to catch people up, and push their various outlets, but damn that was a lot. Also John Cena puffed his chest. He is going to call the Shield out later. He just can’t take a beating lying down. It happens each time he gets laid out. This promo was the same rinse and repeat as usual from Superman in Jorts.
Jack Swagger is back. He has a beard and he doesn’t waste as much time in the ring. His move is called the Patriot act. I am guessing he will be an idealized dick. He will be that guy who thinks anyone who doesn’t think like him isn’t patriotic. Should do well as a heel with the Hispanic audience. Guess what, a Latino is world champ. See how that works.
Alberto Del Rio was next. He crushed Cody Rhodes. Poor Cody and Poor Cody’s mustache. I really hope he can get a jump start on his career after jobbing out the past two weeks. I guess 3MB was busy. A feud with Goldust would do the trick, and fans want to see that undercard feud. This was all to get ADR on TV to build towards him and Big Show later. Besides the sacrifice of Cody Rhodes, it was all good.
Please dear God give me matches like Daniel Bryan and Rey Mysterio every week. Holy crap was that fun. Anytime Rey works with a person who can do good lucha, he excels. I think he gets excited to work old school since most WWE workers can barely spell Lucha Libre, let alone work in that style. Bryan can work any style in the ring. A big win for the bearded warrior. Do I want more of this next week? YES! YES! YES!
I love me some Mark Henry. He is such a great monster. The way he walks. The moves he does. All the little actions and remarks that he does work together to make a terrific package. Mark Henry has come a long way during his time in the WWE. He is primed to be a top tier heel in the World championship division. If the WWE has really hitched their wagon to Alberto Del Rio, he has a ton of worthy challengers to keep his reign fresh. Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus, Randy Orton, Jack Swagger, and Mark Henry. That is a year’s worth of feuds right there.
Sheamus beat Kane. Team Hell No is closer to breaking up. Sheamus stays strong heading into the PPV. It was pretty much a paint-by-the-numbers segment here.
Paul Heyman on MizTV was flawless. If you’re going to be mouth piece or a manager in pro wrestling then watch Heyman’s latest run with the WWE. From his initial introduction with Brock Lesnar to backing CM Punk, and now coming full circle with Brock Lesnar. He truly is one of the best storytellers and characters in the business. It is all the little things that he does. The bit with Vickie Guerrero was picture perfect. It doesn’t get better than that.
Miz is lost. He tries to be smarmy and cocky but it doesn’t work when he isn’t a bad guy. It comes off campy and forced. Some people just can’t be good guys. The Miz is one of them. He does take a good beating though.
Brock Lesnar is big time. He may only wrestle like 4 times a year. As long as they don’t make him champ then I don’t mind that. Every time he walks down the aisle he has that “something awesome is going to happen” feel. Maybe it is the fact that his a multiple time UFC champ, but Brock makes pro wrestling feel legit when he is on camera. That is something that is rare in today’s pro wrestling environment. I am guessing Miz vs Brock in the future as a good PPV undercard match. If so, Elimination Chamber is shaping up to be a must buy pay per view.
Orton and Barrett hook up. I like their matches. They don’t do anything that breaks new ground. Barrett loses for the second week in row. Would have liked to see some Bo Dallas in this match either on commentary or in some role. It would have given Wade something in this match that was designed to push Orton going into the PPV. It could have set up Wade vs. Bo at the PPV for the title, a nice opening 8 minute internet pre-show match for Elimination Chamber.
Bruno Sammartino is in the WWE Hall of Fame. He deserves it. To many, he was the last legit WWE champion before the company went toward the entertainment heavy product of the 80’s and beyond. He made Stan Hansen’s lariat seem like the deadliest weapon in wrestling. This is shaping up to be the best Hall of Fame class in WWE history.
What can you say about CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho? If I can get matches like this and all I have to do is suffer through the WWE pushing their app for two hours, then I’ll make that deal every time. These two are both top ten performers of this modern generation. They can talk. They can wrestle. They can do anything the WWE asks them. It is almost unfair when two talents this skilled at their craft are paired in the ring. It makes the rest of the WWE roster look like minor leaguers. Take away a few recaps and give me 5 more minutes of these two. Hell I wouldn’t mind 3 hours of it.
Big Show and Alberto Del Rio had a good segment. It was better than last week. I like Show and Del Rio is growing on me. I think after Elimination Chamber the two should go their separate ways. This story has run its course. My only question is why anyone didn’t peak their head out of the hotel doors to see what is happening? It might have been a cool little thing to do with some hired extras to add a reality aspect to the segment.
I can’t stand Brad Maddox. He is creepy. He does take a good beating. See a silver lining. It was worth having him in the ring only to hear the line, “Nobody said Justice was free” from Ambrose. The Shield is a top attraction. I also like the touch of having Cena, Sheamus, and Ryback come through the crowd Shield style. The other WWE wrestlers coming from the back was good too because it showed all the enemies the Shield has made.
The big names get the upper hand but the Shield escapes. I like it. I’m looking forward to these two teams meeting in an Elimination Chamber match. It is fresh way to present the match as a War Games style six man tornado tag. New twists are always cool in my book.
This week’s RAW was a quick three hours. It really didn’t have much lag time. After last week’s debacle, I guess my bar wasn’t set very high. It will be interesting to see how they follow up during the go home show next week. Maybe the Rock will actually show up this time. Would be nice to the see and hear from the WWE champ leading up to a pay per view.
Until next time remember that AMC’s The Walking Dead is back this Sunday. As you watch the mid-season premiere think of this little fact: When most humans die, they crap their pants as muscles relax. That means most walkers are cruising around with a giant load in their shorts. That means before you die from a zombie attack the last thing you smell is rotting flesh and crap filled pants. Same goes for when a wrestler has to make out with Mae Young.

Monday Night RAW: WTF
The earlier versions of this review contained a high
concentration of the phrase, “What the fuck?”. I decided that I needed a day to
let my thoughts clear. Even a day later, I still hold the same sentiment
towards this post-Rumble Raw. That 9 PM hour was on par with some of the crap
WCW Thunder used to churn out. This week should have been dubbed “The Shit
Factory” because that seems to be all that creative could produce.
It wasn’t an all bad RAW. There were some really good
moments. That actually made things worse because you’d get crushed, then your
hopes would go up, and finally they would get crushed again. I feel that people
cheered for Brock Lesnar giving Vince an F5 because they had to sit through
three hours of that sludge. Make me watch Tensai in lingerie … take that old
man!
Things started on the right track. CM Punk and Paul Heyman
did a good job of putting their spin on the events of the night before. He got
screwed by Vince, and he sold it. Again Punk delivers another great promo and
Vince does the smart thing by doing a short response with a tease for later. This
was a really strong opening segment that hooked fans in for later, recapped the
events of the night before, and put more steam into Punk & Rock’s feud.
The match between Orton and Cesaro was fun. These two work
really well together and Miz as the guest ref helped give Cesaro a purpose in
this match aside from putting Randy Orton over. For the most part Miz didn’t
try to do too much, which happens with guest refs. Or regular refs on the indy
circuit (I.E. Any ref that thinks doing moonsaults during a match is cool). The
finish was clunky but it all worked. Orton got to get the win and Miz got his
revenge from the night before. The after match finisher might have been too
much as Miz is the good guy here. I guess the lines are blurred with him.
Ryback and The Prime Time Players had a joke off. The WWE
wasted a promising tag team with this segment. Ryback didn’t need to be here.
This was the first big waste of the night. Ryback is a monster and shouldn’t be
in stupid SNL skit type segments. He’s Scott Norton, not Buff Bagwell.
I enjoy the story starting between Wade Barrett and Bo
Dallas. Bo takes a beating but the cocky Barrett gets caught for the pin. I don’t
know about Dallas using the belly-to-belly for the finish, a school boy or
small package would have been better than a finisher. It’s nitpicky.
Now here is where the show begins to go off the rails.
Cody Rhodes is part of a tag team. He challenged for the tag
titles the night before. He even got a great reaction during the Rumble,
especially when his brother entered. This means people kind of care about him.
That means his character has something the WWE should be capitalizing on. John
Cena just wiped the floor with him. There is a ton of jobbers on this roster.
Cody Rhodes shouldn’t be one of them. I guess his tag team with Sandow is done.
Poor Cody … that mustache deserves more respect.
Then Cena cuts another promo where he gets lost in the
middle. Oh and he gives away a segment for later. He talks about the challenge
of facing either CM Punk or The Rock, depending on which is champ. So he knew
that an hour later Punk was going to challenge Rock to a singles match at the
elimination chamber PPV? Great way to spoil the surprise. There should be
people watching these details. I’m guessing the Shield attacked him because the
injustice was that Cena couldn’t remember not to talk about the 10 PM hour to
begin the 9 PM hour. I like the idea of the chamber being a slimmed downed
version of War Games between two 3-man teams. See there is something positive.
Until after 10 PM, Monday Night RAW was unwatchable. Tensai
(Matt Bloom) is a helluva worker. The segment with him in lingerie and then
dancing with Brodus Clay was on par with Mae Young giving birth to hand or HHH
dry humping a mannequin. Tensai did the only thing he could and showed his ass.
There are some times when something is so out there and
crazy that the only way to make it entertaining is to stretch it beyond its
silliness. That is what Tensai did. Kudos to him on owning that shit sandwich
of a segment. Also why does Brodus Clay now act like a bad Saturday morning
cartoon character? The guy who comes to the ring with two big booty strippers
is geared towards the 6 years and younger audience? Makes sense to me.
I get what they tried to do with Alberto Del Rio and Big
Show. It just should have been a lot shorter and with more energy. The whole
bit of tying up Del Rio and Show torturing Ricardo took forever. Aside from an
entertaining Rumble match, this feud has been a dud. They need to wrap this up
and move onto something new for both men. You know it is bad when Shane Helms,
who is traditionally positive to a fault, craps on it during his live tweets.
To complete the hat-trick of crap, there is a Divas match.
They’re in Las Vegas, so it is a showgirl lumberjills match. Snuka could be a
really good wrestler for the WWE. This little segment did nothing for her.
Kaitlyn better keep stroking the “ego” of whoever is in charge of the Divas.
Her in ring talents aren’t doing her any favors. I feel at this point any words
I use to write about the WWE Divas division is waste of my time.
The Rock is back. Things have picked up and he talks about
this being the greatest moment of his life. I mean he never was champion when
he had three movies out and this will sure be more profitable than those other
times, plus he doesn’t have to wrestle on house shows. Yeah I’d be excited for
that title run too.
Punk comes out and these two have one of their best
exchanges. Punk makes the challenge for their rematch that John Cena talked
about an hour ago. The little jabs by Punk were great. The one about swearing
was dead-on. Again Rock was good, but CM Punk owned him on the mic.
The team of Sandow and Rhodes is really buried now. Cody got
destroyed by Superman in Jorts. Sandow now gets to get manhandled by the Ginger
Warrior. Sheamus doing White Noise through a table was kinda cool. I like that
and expect it be something that starts to pop on the indies soon. Alas, Poor
Team Rhodes Scholars! I knew thee well.
That Zack Ryder, 3MB, and Khali thing happened. None of
these guys could have taken Rhodes and Sandow’s place on the jobber train
tonight? Just point to the TV and show us where the WWE hurt you.
Ziggler and Jericho is a fun feud. It looks to be something
that will be used to get Ziggler jump started going towards Mania as they still
try to figure out what to do with his Money In The Bank status. Poor guy has
more jump starts this year than an old Ford pinto. In the end we did get a
Ziggler/Jericho vs. Team Hell No match. That isn’t a bad thing.
They’re starting the descent on Kane and Bryan. I hope this
is a false break up and they come back stronger than ever. I’m not holding my
breath. At least we get to see Daniel Bryan in more singles action soon.
Congrats to Trish Stratus on making the WWE Hall of Fame. I
remember when she started with the company and couldn’t even wrestle. She was a
fitness model with an incredible body that the WWE exploited with some head
smacking storylines. Trish put in the time, unlike many of the current Divas,
and ended up being one of the most gifted in-ring performers the WWE has ever
had. There can be a debate about the greatest female wrestler of all time, but there
is no debate that Trish Stratus deserves to be mentioned in that discussion.
Vince McMahon sure loves to strut. He is a great worker and
he knows how to wrap a crowd around his finger. The interaction between Vince
and Paul Heyman was some of the best work the WWE has done in years. Paul is
amazing in his weasel role. Even with video proof, he still denies the truth.
He denies it so well, you almost believe him that he wasn’t in the video. That
is some classic snake oil salesmanship right there. I would really like to see
more Paul vs. Vince segments, they are good times.
Brock Lesnar comes out, and instead of giving the Devil’s
grin, Paul Heyman seems to fear Lesnar more than Vince. That sells how
dangerous Brock really is. Paul knows what is going to happen and he is telling
the man who was about fire him to get out of the ring. It’s the little things.
Brock gives Vince an Eskimo kiss and then breaks the old man’s hip. That is
some Hannibal Lecter shit right there. I guess Paul keeps his job on a
technicality.
Paul Heyman has under his wing CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, and
The Shield. That might be the most impressive stable in pro wrestling history.
Now they haven’t officially come out together, and Paul seems to keep each separate,
but damn that is still impressive. I for one hope that WrestleMania has a War Games
match with Punk, Lesnar, Rollins, Ambrose, and Reigns vs. DX (HHH, HBK, Gunn,
Road Dawg, and X-pac). You could even toss Heyman and Vince on the teams like
they used to do with JJ Dillon when the Horsemen had a War Games match. I don’t
think this happens, but a guy can dream.
The WWE did some stuff right. They set the stage for their
next PPV with Rock vs. Punk in the rematch & Team Cena vs. The Shield in an
Elimination Chamber match. Plus they reintroduced Brock Lesnar and restarted
his HHH feud. Aside from that this was one of the worst RAWs in history. There
was an entire hour that I was ashamed to watch as a wrestling fan. The ratings
were up for this show after a strong Rumble, and this is what the WWE had to
offer. Shame.
In the end I just keep thinking about all that should be
happening and all that is happening. That thought process usually ends with, “What
The Fuck?!?”.

Armchair Booker: It’s All About WrestleMania
I haven’t really been in the wrestling loop the past few weeks. I even took a break from the internet for the weekend. Sometimes it is nice to be hold up in a spot that doesn’t even have cell phone reception. It lets you clear out your head, which is highly recommended at least once a year. Like an oil change for the brain. Then I came back Tuesday and waded back into technology. The first thing I saw was about CM Punk back fisting a fan. That made me hit the dirt sheets to find out more. The second thing I learned was that Vince McMahon verbally undressed his writers and gave the brain trust of the WWE creative team a swift kick in the pants. While the first had more sizzle, the second has more impact.
As far as CM Punk and the fans go, sucks that the guy got hit, but why didn’t he do anything to stop the mob of fans from pushing Punk down the stairs? Change the setting for a second. Take the WWE, Wrestling, and Fans out of the equation and look at it for what it was. If a guy is trying to be pushed down the stairs by a handful of people, and you’re standing less than a foot behind the person then isn’t doing nothing just helping those morons push the person down the stairs? It’s like the end of Seinfeld when they watched a guy get mugged but didn’t do anything about it. They went to jail, and this kid tasted the back of Punk’s hand. Justice is justice.
The kid who got hit isn’t pressing charges. Good for him. He didn’t have the balls to standup to the people around him who were trying to physically injure a person for their enjoyment. Maybe next time he’ll grow a pair and not let a guy get kidney punched & pushed down a flight of stairs. When we were kids and we did stupid shit then a smack on the head reminded us to not be an idiot. Seems this fan got exactly that. Had he stepped in and stopped a douchebag from being a douchebag then he wouldn’t have gotten a smack on the head. Lesson learned here: Grow a pair and don’t get smacked like a bitch.
Now onto the bigger news from the week: Vince McMahon is beyond pissed with the creative team, including preparing to diminish the role of his two senior writers and promoting some of the new blood. If you’ve been visiting this website for the past few months then you know I have no love loss for the creative team at World Wrestling Entertainment. They are old, tired, and burnt out. They haven’t produced a meaningful piece of television since maybe RAW 1000, and that really wasn’t their doing. This could be the transfusion of energy that the WWE as a whole needs to get over this stale hump they find themselves in.
It would seem that the WWE is under pressure from NBC to turn around ratings that have been in free fall since the switch to three hours and the beginning of the NFL season. The biggest issue being with the creative team that has the success rate of a drunken Ray Charles tossing darts. They could barely produce content for two hours of RAW and it hasn’t gotten any better by stretching the show to three hours. Some would say that the lack of compelling content also lies at the feet of the talent, which has a big drop off after the top tier of wrestlers on the roster. I believe that problem is also something you can attribute to the current creative team at the WWE.
There are undiscovered gems in the WWE right now. Their developmental system is stockpiled with future stars. Dean Ambrose, Kassius Ohno, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, and Luke Harper are just some of the future talents that the WWE creative team hasn’t unleashed yet. The main reason being that creative has nothing for them on the main show just yet. How can you call yourself creative if you can’t create? That is why the WWE is in its current situation. They have a whole team that can’t do what their name suggests. It’s like football players who can’t play football.
Now the reboot has started. New minds are being put in charge. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a slew of firings and hirings that take place over the next few weeks. Somebody once told me it is never nice to talk about people losing their jobs. Then again if they did their job right, they wouldn’t be losing it. Nobody has ever a fucked up a situation by doing it correctly.
Since this is an Armchair Booker article then I’m going to lay out how I believe it is done correctly. I’ve never worked for the WWE. I’m pretty sure I’ll never work for the WWE. Not to say I wouldn’t like the job. I just don’t see it in my cards. First off, I’ve never written a sitcom. Second, I still call sports entertainment pro wrestling. In my opinion Sports Entertainment has never pulled a 5 share, but Pro Wrestling has. There is a difference between the two.
To start the WWE needs to build their WrestleMania. I would believe this has happened. It’s creative writing 101. You need to know your destination before you can map out your path. Not to say that the WWE should have the entire show timed out with detailed segments, but a rough idea of the four main events on the show should be hashed out by now. Honestly this should be done before Summer Slam.
Without knowing what you’re building to then what direction are your current shows pushing towards? Without direction you’re drifting. Having your four main events for WrestleMania planned gives you something solid to begin building on. The middle stuff, or filler, can be hashed out later, but these main events need to be what drives the WWE car from day one. If you know you’re doing Cena vs. Rock 2 then Summer Slam & beyond needs to keep that in mind.
I for one would actually stay away from Rock vs. Cena at WrestleMania. The Rock is coming back at Royal Rumble. His initial draw for WrestleMania is being used up by that appearance. Some fans will tune in to see him at Mania, but his real effect will be seen at the Rumble. Unless he is going to return fulltime, then his value depreciates with appearances that close together. He has a high burn rate, and two months apart is too close to be a double draw.
From what I can tell you have The Rock signed on for Mania. You also have Brock Lesnar. Add into the mix The Undertaker, HHH, John Cena, and CM Punk. Those are your drawing six. They will sell the majority of tickets and PPV buys. Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, Randy Orton, and Albert Del Rio are your second tier draw. They will move tickets and buys on their own, but nothing that tips the needle. I for one think by Mania that Bryan could be a draw, but right now he’s stuck in that limbo between the two. That is the ten talents you can build your show on.
To start I would determine what is the best possible true main event to close the show. This is the match that will sell the most and provides true sizzle. To me that takes HHH vs. Brock & Cena vs. Rock out of the picture. These sheep have both been sheared. They’ll push some sales but they no longer have the shine they once had. In fact I wouldn’t do either match on the card.
The Rock is a one match per talent type of wrestler right now. He gets the most bang for his buck when you can give him somebody fresh to feud with. He also needs to win at WrestleMania. It keeps his ego happy. Who is better for the Rock than Daniel Bryan? Bryan can protect Rock’s ring rust plus he has shown he can get over with any gimmick they give him. Rock vs Bryan has some roots in RAW 1000, and could be a solid 9pm hour main event. This is a really hot match that will blow a lot of fans away and is a possible show stealer. This slot on the card is the best place to put show stealers. It also puts a lot of pressure on your closing, or true main event, match.
John Cena is a draw for a select fan base. He has really burned out a good size portion of the fans. His true value is his hard work. He’ll never mail it in. That makes him the perfect bar setter. He should be the talent that is opening the show. He should be the man who says everyone has to be better than that tonight. That’s why I like Randy Orton vs. John Cena to open the show. They are both established talents. They have good matches with each other. Not putting either in a “Main Event” allows for a rehash of their feud. It’s not meant to be a ticket draw, but both have the ability to set the tone for the evening. That is very important for a big show. It might be why I have always considered the first match of a show as the second most important match behind the main event or closing match.
As for HHH, he’s going to wrestle. I just don’t think it should be Brock Lesnar. Their rematch should happen before WrestleMania. I would much rather see him in the ring with an Albert Del Rio. It’s fresh and the angle writes itself. ADR is HHH when he began. He’s a rich pompous ass with tons of talent. They can do a feud based around ADR being a younger HHH. The young lion will prove that the old lion isn’t who he used to be. The old lion will claim the young lion is him without the experience. They’re both good on the mic, and in the ring it should be a good story. I would say this is tailor made for the 7pm Main Event. Nice solid match up to keep building the night on. It will sell tickets.
With Brock free to fight then he needs to be tossing fists with the man who loves to fight, Sheamus. The young Irishman is being primed to be a top draw. He needs a blockbuster feud. The two would work very well together. Sheamus is a good rough and tough baby face. Brock is a great heartless bully. Their physical styles should mesh well together. Placing them as the 8pm Main Event should help protect them from any potholes. It’s the safest main event slot on the show.
That leaves the closer for the show. I for one would be keeping the title on CM Punk. He is a draw. Simply put, if he and John Cena stopped working for the WWE, then the company wouldn’t have a true ticket seller on the roster. He has a built in big match with Royal Rumble coming up. Punk vs. Rock will have an amazing buy rate. I explained a little above.
Personally I think giving Punk the win at the Rumble does a lot more for the WWE than having Rock win. First it establishes Punk as the man. Second it extends a title reign that will be hard to build again. One year plus makes it so that people will want to see if tonight is the night he drops the strap. Third, it allows for a matchup at WrestleMania that will be a true draw: Undertaker vs. CM Punk for the WWE Championship – Streak vs. Streak.
When Mania rolls around the Undertaker has built in buzz. His streak is something of legend. Another big streak is the days that CM Punk has been champion. A matchup that features the immovable object vs. the unstoppable force is always a draw. In this case it is streak vs. streak. If they meet, then one has to end. Will the Undertaker go 20-1, or will CM Punk have his nearly 18 month title reign ended? You’ll have to pay to find out!
Not only are the two names by themselves big draws. Not only are they going to put together an amazing match. They have the mystery about their finish that adds to the fire. Nobody truly knows who is going to win, and in today’s era of dirt sheets that is a rare commodity. It’s the kind of perfect storm that sets WrestleMania sales records.
The CM Punk vs. Undertaker WrestleMania match is something I have thought hard about. I actually have a creative writing mock-up of the feud. I will be putting that out in the next few days. Check back for the details on that. If I was booking it I would do something that no fan was expecting.
These five matches are the loose skeleton that the WWE can use to build their WrestleMania. There is a solid opener, and four top notch main events. The closing match is a draw that pulls from a variety of angles. This sets the table for the rest of the year, and allows for the WWE to begin pushing toward this end result. As I said earlier, they’ll have a destination and now they can map out the path. Just never forget, it’s all about Wrestlemania.

Night of Champions: Why I Didn’t Buy
WWE’s Night of Champions is in the books. I can’t really review it because I never saw it. I instead decided to watch the 49ers destroy the Lions. Even if NFL football wasn’t on, I probably still wouldn’t have bought this PPV. It was one match and it had all the stink of being an angle driven PPV.
The WWE rumor mill has been really pushing the Hell in a Cell PPV that is coming down the pipe. First there was the leaked poster for CM Punk as the devil at Hell in a Cell. Then there was a small tease that HHH vs. Brock Lesnar might happen in the cell. Finally, Paul Heyman has been hyping the shit out of Punk’s big October release of his DVD. This all made me feel that this PPV was going to be more about putting heat on the next show than putting asses in the seats for this one. It was like a July show for an indie promotion.
In Indie wrestling the toughest months to promote are between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Kids are out of school and that leads to family vacations, which means extra cash for wrasslin’ tickets is now tied up into the vacation fund. In most places it is really nice outside so you lose out to the weather. Finally the summer leads to a lot of competition from carnivals, fairs, movies, etc. No indie show will ever beat out going to see The Dark Knight Rises or stuffing your face with an elephant ear before puking on the tilt-a-whirl.
So when you’re promoting in the summer you run on a tight roster to cut down on expenses. You also use these shows to push storylines that will become ticket sellers in late September/early October. You will have your hardcore fans that come to shows no matter the season. You’ll get a couple of fringe fans who might have a favorite wrestler or nothing better to do. You won’t get the same house you will get once the temperature drops in November.
It’s why you see a lot of tournaments in the summer. It’s a great gimmick to create short term interest that can set the table for future angles or feuds while saving your promotion money. Promotions having 8 guys wrestling in 7 total matches plus a special attraction match helps stretch the budget that is limited. That is what Night of Champions was. It helped the WWE remind everyone about their champions and it let them sell more buys/tickets for their next PPV, Hell in a Cell.
When it comes to the finish of the show I am not bothered by it because I didn’t pay for it. I like the finish for John Cena vs. CM Punk. I have always liked the “Crappy German Suplex leads to both shoulders being down” angle. The under 20 crowd probably doesn’t remember this old 90’s angle. Hell I am even having trouble remembering when I last saw it, but I know I have. I think it involved Bret Hart. Not really sure. The fact is that when you have new fans who really only know the post-attitude era WWE then all things old are new again. Sorry older fans, welcome to being outside of the money demo.
If you paid for it, and hated it, then it’s your fault for not looking at this card and recognizing all the red flags that this PPV had. The under card was barely a step above Shotgun Saturday Night quality. The main event was being played off as not the finish to a feud, but merely a stepping stone. It was a rushed pay per view with almost a complete lack of promotion. I don’t even know if people working for the WWE knew it was taking place.
So now it’s Monday and you’ve got to get over it. The Main Event was a draw. Flair and Steamboat had a ton of draws. If you’re a fan of good wrestling then be excited for this because it is a feud that is being developed. Punk says he deserves respect. Cena believes he should be champ. Paul Heyman is lurking in the shadows. Now there is going to be a nasty cell match between the two. It’s all coming together for what should be a very good show, too bad you had to pay to watch the angle & not the match. I will ask, “Wasn’t the actual match before the draw pretty entertaining?” From my twitter feed, I would say “Yes”. That should be worth something, just not 40 bucks (54 in HD).
Tonight will tell a lot about the plans for the WWE. They will set the table for the cell, but also they will begin the build for Survivor Series. Will this next PPV be another rung in the ladder for this well planned out feud, or will it be the blow off match that catapults CM Punk or John Cena into their next match up in January with The Rock?
Personally I think this won’t be their last singles match. I think this match will end with Brock Lesnar getting involved. I’m even calling a “Lesnar rips the cage door off” spot. Either that or a group of “Heyman Guys” are going to come help Punk. This will lead to a Team Punk vs. Team Cena match at Survivor Series. If the WWE is truly booking for the long term then make the SS match a winner picks the stip for the December PPV. Team Cena wins and we get the blow off in December that leads the champ in 2013 with tons of heat for The Rock in January.
That is a very loose booking strategy but it might be the future for the rest of 2012. Then again, as usual, I could be wrong. Cena could win at Hell in a Cell and nothing happens at Survivor Series. It all hinges on tonight. The price on RAW is free (kinda) and I’m willing to buy the WWE right now at that price.

Monday Night RAW: I'm A Paul Heyman Guy
I want to start off by wishing Jerry “The King” Lawler a speedy recovery from his heart attack. I still remember when I was 19 and I got the call that my dad had been rushed to the hospital for an emergency quadruple bypass. It’s a long road to full recovery, but if anyone can win this fight it is the king.
Also I want to recognize all those who lost their lives, or
their loved ones, on this day eleven years ago when a group of religious
zealots acted like cowards by flying two planes into the towers, another into
the pentagon, and brave Americans made sure a fourth never made it to its destination.
I woke up that morning late for class at college. I rushed to get there without
knowing what had happened. I got to class and I was the only person there. This
was before smart phones and Facebook. I waited for a half hour for people to
show up but nobody did. So I walked out of class and noticed nobody was on
campus. I poked my head into the lounge and saw a large group crowded around
the TV. That’s when I learned about the attacks.
I later that day got a job delivering pizzas. I dropped out
of college, and got back into pro wrestling. I decided that college could wait
because I had a dream to be a wrestler, and 9/11 proved to me that at any
moment your time to live your dreams can be taken away. I spent five years
chasing my dream, making tons of great memories, and then I went back to
college to achieve new dreams. To me 9/11 will always be the day my eyes got
opened to the reality that the time we have on this planet is shrinking by the
moment.
Now on to the lighter side of life: Monday Night RAW. Normally
I would break down all the different parts of RAW but really this was the CM Punk
show. There was some stuff that quickly developed a few undercard matches for
Night of Champions this Sunday, but really this PPV is a one match show.
I am a fan of Daniel Bryan and Kane being a tag team. I like
that they are doing the reluctant partners storyline. I have a feeling they
become tag champions this Sunday. For a division that has been left to drift,
this could be a blessing. I also like them using the choke slam/cannonball as a
finisher. Imagine when they come together as team and Bryan runs in asking to
be choke slammed. The crowd will pop. Hell, imagine a top rope choke slam bomb
by Kane & Bryan. It will be awesome.
Then there was the stupid Sheamus/ADR storyline. Why is a
kick banned? It’s a kick. They have dropped the ball on this one. Also the two
GMs are stupid. I hope the rumors that they are both getting fired is true.
They need to get that whole situation fixed, and quick. Finally Cody looks to
be facing Miz for the IC title. Talk about tossing something together quick.
Yeah there is more that happened on RAW but none of it
really mattered. It was place holder stuff. Hell I think CM Punk took up almost
40% of RAW last night. He was the opening promo, he was the whole 9 o’clock
hour, and he was the show closing promo. Let’s break all of that down.
The opening promo was good. Punk has gone full blown
egomaniac. I like that he talks about how if he was the champ back in 97 that
he would have sunk the WWE and jumped ship to WCW. Too bad the attitude era wasn’t
started in Montreal. Most would say it began when WCW had the NWO and it forced
the WWE to go away from campy character wrestling. So Punk would have just been another part of
that need to go extreme. He should just ask Paul Heyman about why ECW was
brought in for a few RAWs. Overall the opening segment was good, and did what
it needed to set the table for the end of the show.
The 9 o’clock hour was a decent match between Punk and
Orton, then an angle tag match between Orton/Lawler & Ziggler/Punk. I love
how they are handling the Punk and Heyman “alliance”. Nobody knows why they are
together. All we know is that Punk is a Heyman guy. We also know that Brock
hates Cena because he lost to him a few months back.
Finally it seems that Punk is going to be champ going into
the Royal Rumble. There is a Survivor Series PPV between now and then. Imagine
an old school Survivor Series match with Punk & Brock on one team and Cena
& Rock on the other; then maybe toss in 6 others talents. I suggest HHH,
HBK, and Undertaker on team Cena. The other three for Punk & Brock can be
other “Heyman” guys.
Ziggs lost to Orton. Again. Hopefully this means on PPV that
Ziggs will finally pick up a win against the Viper. If not then I have no clue
what creative is thinking. Their MITB winner shouldn’t be jobbing out to the
guy who might not be there next month.
The last part of the show was about trying to get Cena over
as the face with the help of Bret Hart. John Cena gave one hell of promo to
Punk. The two have a great chemistry in every aspect. By the end the Montreal
crowd was very pro Cena. It was a really strong finish to the show and probably
sold a lot of people who were on the fence about this PPV.
I also like having Bret Hart punch out CM Punk. Cena makes
the original save to pop the crowd, and then Hart is on the defense to block
the second attempt. It’s one shot from one of the greatest in the world, and
Punk peppers out of the ring. It is the perfect way to handle it because Hart
shouldn’t be able to hang with the champ, but a good shot to the jaw works at
being believable.
This Sunday will be interesting. Traditionally on these
middle of the road PPVs, the guy standing tall on the last RAW is the guy
losing the match. By that math it would be CM Punk who slithers out after
Sunday night. I think there will be more Heyman interaction. I also think the
Boston crowd will be a great crowd for this match. It may be the most pro-Cena
crowd the WWE has.
Monday Night RAW hasn’t been knocking it out of the park.
Last week was a place holder besides the very end segment. This week it was all
about Punk. Once this PPV is over, and we move on to Hell in a Cell, I would
believe things should pick up to compete with Monday Night Football. If the WWE
waits until their build for Survivor Series, then it could be too late. Then
again next Monday is coming together as a can’t miss show because something big
is brewing for this Sunday. When it comes to good RAWs, I find it’s the mystery
that sells the best. That is why I’m a Paul Heyman guy.

Game Over?
This week Hunter Hearst Helmsley shed a tear, and walked
away from the WWE ring. He gave a speech about not wanting to be the guy that
stayed past his expiration date. He did it because at Summer Slam, when the
fans were supposed to say goodbye to the Game, the crowd chanted “You Tapped
Out”. He couldn’t let the faux retirement of HHH go unnoticed and mocked.
The worst kept secret in the WWE is that by WrestleMania Triple
H will return to claim his pound of flesh from Brock Lesnar. Hunter, and the
WWE creative, needed the fans to know that Brock uncrowned the King of Kings,
so that in a few months they’ll care when he comes back to get his crown. Now
for the next few months the WWE has a giant hole where their Summer Slam main
event used to be as the talents involved are nowhere to be seen.
It would seem that with limited dates in Brock Lesnar’s contract
that the WWE is doing their best to stockpile appearances of Lesnar to put
together a solid program leading up to the biggest show of the year. It had
been talked about that the rematch would happen at Survivor Series but, for the
same reason HHH needed to waste 20 minutes of our time this Monday, his ego can’t
let him be overshadowed. Just as he needs to go out swinging, he needs to be a
part of WrestleMania 29. He needs to be on the same card as The Rock,
Undertaker, CM Punk, and John Cena. He can’t sit in the back wearing a suit as
others soak up his lime light. Not on Hunter’s watch.
He headlined Summer Slam, and damn it he’ll headline
WrestleMania too!
No person truly believes HHH is done. The WWE will continue
to sell it. He’ll stay off TV because who cares about the rest of 2012. Yet
when the time comes to collect bigger pay checks, the talent showing up every
week will be pushed aside for Hunter and his man crush on Brock Lesnar. It
simply can’t end the way it did. It can’t end with the fans chanting “You
Tapped Out”. It can’t end with the Game walking out, tears streaming from his
face. It has to end in the ring at WrestleMania. It’s the only option for a man
with a bigger ego than his nose.
Now we will sit and wait. We’ll watch as the WWE prepares
for The Rock. We’ll see the twists and turns of CM Punk as he toes the line
between good and evil. We’ll hope that the two are on a collision course at the
Royal Rumble. Then when we’ve almost forgot about HHH, he’ll come back. He’ll
probably even get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Then he’ll do what he does
best, and eclipse all the months of work by those keeping the WWE afloat as he
picks and chooses his spots.
It is what he has done for the past year. When CM Punk was
red hot, who stepped up to face him? Triple H. When the Undertaker needed an
opponent to go 20-0, who was there to meet him at WrestleMania? Triple H. When
Brock Lesnar threatened the WWE, who stood in his way? Triple H. Now when
WrestleMania rolls around who will be there to steal the spot light from the
rest of the roster? Triple H!
As the Who song says, “New boss same as the old boss”. Yet
unlike the title of the song, the WWE fans will be fooled again. They’ll
continue to believe HHH is the top of the heap because he won’t let anyone else
climb that high. Which is the same reason the WWE ratings and fan following
hasn’t climbed any higher under his watch. Until HHH actually walks away and realizes
he has already stayed past his expiration date, the WWE will continue to fall
victim to their own hubris. It’s time that Hunter realizes that in 2013 this
isn’t a storyline anymore, but a reality. One that is telling him it’s Game
Over, and not Over in the way he thinks it means.

Monday Night RAW: When 3 Hours Becomes 1
I didn’t get to watch RAW live last night, but before going
to bed I decided to DVR through the 3 hours. It’s sad when I can get through
the whole episode in an hour, and know I never missed a thing. The fact is that
World Wrestling Entertainment is getting ready for an international tour, and
next Monday is a holiday show, so the WWE is in a holding pattern until
September 10th. The matches this week were nothing bigger than
anything I would see on WWE Superstars. Even John Cena vs. The Miz, a former
WrestleMania main event, didn’t have a big match feel.
I for one am a big fan of the mini-feud between CM Punk and
Jerry Lawler. Last night it was fumbled a little bit. Why won’t Jerry Lawler
man up right away and why does he need an hour to think about it? I was all for
the CM Punk “apology” and how he ran down Lawler. When Punk walked away I
expected Lawler to lay out the champ with a cheap shot.
In fact it would have been better than waiting on Lawler to
make a decision. They just have Punk do his fake apology and turn his back on
Lawler. Then Jerry smacks Punk in the back of the head and tosses him from the
ring. Punk storms off and in a backstage interview he challenges Lawler for
later. Finally Lawler answers his challenge with a “Hell Yes” instead of the
whimper he gave last night.
There were a lot of “eh” matches. Ryback, Layla, Truth,
Santino, and Clay were all angle matches. None of these matches moved the
needle. Ryback has a sloppy match with Swagger, who should be begging for his
release. Layla got a win where the focus was on Vickie on the outside. Santino
and his cobra have hormones for a chick with a hand. Clay teams with Sin Cara
to get some rub by beating Rhodes & protecting Sandow. Finally Truth gets a
win because the WWE wants to further the Bryan anger management angle. That’s
like 90 minutes of stuff in a paragraph. See how fast you can DVR through three
hours.
I did enjoy the Bryan anger management segments. They are
campy and cheesy. I laughed at the Kane part because his character is that
quirky. A tip of the cap to his morbid past, and Pete Rose was a big pop. I am
interested to see where all this goes down the line. I wonder if it will be a
bonding moment for Bryan and Kane? Maybe a future tag team?
Cena and Miz was good. These two have good chemistry. It was
simply a match to keep Cena top of mind. The IC Champ is now just a glorified enhancement
talent. The WWE just had to remind us that Cena is still around and he is
gunning for Punk. Don’t everyone cheer at once.
The HHH segments were good at selling the end of his career.
I enjoy the walk down memory lane. He is one of the best in ring performers in
the history of the business, and to steal a sports term, a sure fire first
ballot hall of famer. His speech was long, but if it is supposed to be his last
one, then it should be that long.
Now I don’t for one second believe that he is totally done.
As I said yesterday, HHH won’t go out crying. He’ll go out being carried from
the ring. He is King Arthur in his mind, and Arthur doesn’t die on his knees,
but carried out on his shield. I think they’ll save the dates in the Brock
contract, and maybe use HBK to lure HHH out of retirement. How about HBK vs.
Brock at Survivor Series or the Royal Rumble, which leads to Brock vs. HHH in a
blow off match at WrestleMania? It would be a nice addition to a card that
looks to have Rock vs. Cena, and possibly Punk vs. Taker. That is three big matches to sell your 8PM,
9PM, and 10PM hours on the biggest show of the year.
Again Ziggler gets his teeth kicked in, and guess what Randy
Orton stands tall. Yes it was Sheamus kicking in his teeth, but of the four men
in that tag match, it is Orton who should be looking at the lights. Del Rio is
your current #1 contender. Sheamus is your World champion. Ziggler is your
money in the bank holder. Orton is fresh off suspension for his second drug
violation and about to leave again to film a movie. Which one do you think
should be losing? Yeah not Ziggler. Crowd liked it, but Milwaukee isn’t known
for their intelligence.
The crowd showed their lack of care during the main event.
Jerry Lawler and Punk are facing each other in a cage match, and you could hear
a pin drop in that building. Maybe the crowd was tired from three hours of
subpar wrestling. The match was limited because Punk at any time could destroy
Lawler. He played the cocky heel, including the free shot to begin.
I liked how the match played out because there was a story
involved in there. Now most people in the crowd and watching at home don’t
really understand how big a deal Jerry Lawler was. They know the puppy loving
immature commentator and not the king of Memphis wrestling. It showed last
night.
The end was the best part with Punk dismantling Lawler as he
demanded respect. He really took a turn towards the dark side. Cena comes out
and forgets he can climb a cage, so Lawler takes a few more minutes of a
beating. The cage gets raised and Punk walks off with an evil grin on his face.
Purpose served even if the crowd didn’t care for the first 90% of it.
Should be interesting to see how next week is handled in
Chicago. Punk will be a conquering hero in his hometown. I would assume they
will play up the hometown angle for Night of Champions. I’ll put my money on a
six man tag next week. It’s the crutch match for WWE creative when they don’t
want to really advance a storyline. I don’t think Lawler gets involved because
they might sell him being injured after the attack. Then again having him be
part of team Cena in a six man would make sense.
Finally, I would think a stipulation is going to be added to
the match between Cena and Punk at the PPV. I still say a handshake or respect
match but with the loser calling the winner, “The Best in The World” after the
match. In Boston that would be some serious heel heat if Cena had to say it to
Punk.
It was a quick week this week. I expect the same next week.
That means the September 10th show has to be a HUGE event to help
cover the coasting the WWE is doing. If not then I might coast past buying
Night of Champions.
